Wednesday Sermon: Open Door, October 28th, 2020

Wednesday Sermon at the Grateful Church in Phoenix (UPCI)

Open Door

Part of knowing God is to know His ways and how He walks in our situations. He is the God of all possibilities and potentials. He opens better opportunities and solutions that cannot be shut. Isa 22:22 - And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. An Open door is a shift in our environment toward something good. It is like the wind that blows where it is directed. John 3:8 - The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Sometimes it is a hunch or intuition about a better opportunity that suggests someone has enter our space or situation. 1 Cor 16:9 - For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. Open door is an invitation to participate in the discovery of God’s grace and goodness towards us. Reading from the text:

Acts 12:7-11

7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

Doors are open for a season, which suggests opportunities are seasonal. We have limited time to walk through the door of opportunity. Within the season of open access, the gates will not be shut.

  1. Jesus is the open door for us to access solutions in challenging times

  2. We are to seek, ask, and knock to seize the opportunity as opposed to having a close mind

Zech 10:1- Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so, the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to everyone grass in the field.

Ps 95:7-8 - For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today if ye will hear his voice,

8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness

  1. Therefore, Open doors are new and better solutions or opportunities for our challenges. Open door will feel right and fulfilling, leading to our spiritual development

Doors do not open on their own accords: This suggest that someone must open them for us to go through. In this context, God opens these doors through His angels without human efforts. Examples include the Red Sea, River Jordan, Walls of Jericho, etc

  1. An open door implies the readiness of God to lead us to better opportunities like a shepherd. It is the understanding of what the will of God is in our situation and where He wants us to go.

  2. God’s doors are easy and peaceful to walk through when compared to a closed door. When we must kick on the door, it suggests the door is closed

  3. Example of closed door are unequally yoked relationship, neglecting the church for your other interests, sinful behaviors, etc.

Prayer is the key to open a door: Jesus gave us the keys of many doors to unlock opportunities in the kingdom

  1. We have the option to look to Jesus for solutions and to rest from the attack of the enemy

  2. Prayer is the enforcer that opens the door
