Sunday Sermon: We Will Receive What We Believe, May 16, 2021

Sunday Sermon at the Grateful Church (UPCI) in Phoenix

We Will Receive What We Believe

We have been wounded by sin, sickness, and diseases, feeling lost, rejected, abused, laid by the roadside of life, in harsh and unfriendly places with painful memories. Our souls long for comfort, peace, and wholeness until Jesus comes and heals our wounds. He suffered for our peace under the hands of Romans and Jewish authorities to heal our wounds and secure our freedom. As a good neighbor, He wished for us what He wished for Himself, wellness, sound heart, freedom, and prosperity. If we believe that we have freedmen in Jesus, we are to stand firm as freed men and not be encumbered by the yoke of slavery- Gal 5:1

Romans 8:2

  1. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

If we believe that Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, why are we still fighting the devils? It is either we do not believe what we say, or we struggle with the truth. The power and value of our faith rest on the truth we believe and not on what we say.

John 8:32 & 36

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

So, Isaiah says those who will believe that they are freedmen will rise like a tender plant in a dry and parched lands of their grieves, sorrows, and intense fear.

Isa 53:1,2,4-&5

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

4 Surely, he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah’s message for our peace was twofold:

  1. He was wounded and bruised with 7 streams of blood for our rebellion and disobedience: 2 on His hands, 2 on the legs, crown of torn on his head, spear thrusted on His sides, and 39 strips on His back. These wounds drew blood to pay the price for our sins, sicknesses, diseases, and for our freedom from the power of Satan. We were:

    1. Bought with His blood– Act 20:28

    2. Reconciled through the blood – Col.1:20, Rev 17:11

    3. Redeemed by it – Eph 1:7 & 1Peter 1:18-19.

    4. Purified from sin by it – 1 Jn 1:7

    5. Given access through the blood – Heb 10:19

    6. Forgiven by it– Matt 26:28

    7. Freed from sin through it– Rev 1:5

    8. Cleansed by the blood– Rev 7:14

    9. Triumphant over the devil through it –

    10. Granted forbearance, unpunished, and justified –

  2. He bore our sickness and carried our diseases. Jesus healed the sick and drove away demons with his word in fulfillment of Isaiah 53:4 prophecy 700 yrs BC

Matt 8:16-17

16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:

17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Matthew’s 8 mass healing, Mark 2:8-12 healing of the paralytic man, and James 5:16 established: (1) Sin as the root causes of sickness and diseases, and (2), that Jesus was wounded for the sin of the world and our physical healing. The blood, which bled from Jesus granted us access to redemption from sin and healing from sickness and diseases.

Application: When FAITH is hanged on the truth, it makes us whole and free. Faith simply is to be sure of what we hope for.

Luke 1:45 - And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

Faith in Jesus atoning work is our bridge back to spiritual and physical health.
