Sunday Sermon: Value Driven, November 1st, 2020

Sunday Sermon at Grateful Church in Phoenix (UPCI)

Value Driven

A lot of the good news of the kingdom of God are still hidden from our eyes, knowledge, and understanding. We may stumble into them and others may seek after them, but only a few can discern the value in the gospel of Jesus. Matt 11:25 … I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Bargain is the eye for value and the pursuit of it can led to a lonely path because not everyone could see what your eyes had seen. True value is in Jesus Christ and it is the attraction of the gospel. In Matthew 13:44 the kingdom of God is presented as a treasure.

Matt 13:44

44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

The text reveals that:

  1. Great minds have a growth mindset, always open to learning new things

  2. They are quick to ascribe accurate value and develop into the person they need to be to produce the measure of value they seek

  3. Conducive environment of preaching the gospel, hearing, and believing it enables the discovery of great treasures in the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Great minds are thoughtful and intelligent

  1. The man’s superior knowledge of the treasure awakened his curiosity and course of actions

  2. Many people meet Jesus accidentally, like Zacchaeus, blind Bartimaeus, the woman with the issues of blood, etc. and were hasty in embracing actions necessary to gain Christ and secure their salvation

Ascribing the right value to what we have heard and seen

  1. Allows you to pay the cost associated with owning it. The willingness to pay high price is a product of profit and indispensable service. Jesus sold all to purchase the church that we might serve Him in holiness and righteousness without fear

    1. Bargain is the eyes for values that is in Jesus Christ and profit is what we earn after cost and sacrifices. It is a great motivator.

    2. For the glory to be revealed Christ endured the cross.

    3. Indispensable service of the Holy Ghost is a product of specialization in wisdom, knowledge, understanding etc. that increases the value of God in the face of Jesus

Conducive environment is an advantage to self-discovery.

The church environment of preaching the gospel, hearing, and believing is an advantage that enables self- discovery of the treasures of God in the face of Jesus Christ and in us

  1. It is the Holy Ghost, the Christ in you and the hope of glory that makes us valuable and profitable in service to the kingdom of God.

  2. What value is there in a candle that gives not light or salt that lost it taste. Neither is there value in the Holy Ghost if we do not allow it to lead us into Christlike character

  3. Examples: Onesimus – Philemon 10-11; and John Mark - 2 Tim. 4:11

Philem 10-11

10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

2 Tim 4:11

11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
