OT Shadows of the Holy Ghost

The soul does not find rest in sinful behaviors; hence its desires are circumcised at the gate of repentance from the burdens of sin before entering the sabbath to find rest. Sabbath is the rest and not a particular day or year. The soul is identified and sealed by the sabbath, a shadow of the Holy Ghost in the NT to lead the soul besides the still waters of rest and redemption. The Sabbath, the temple, the practice of circumcision, and the seal of the king in the Old testament to mention a few are types, shadows, or figures of the Holy Ghost in the Bible that reveal God’s intent and plan about the baptism of the Holy Ghost for us today.

Sabbath: The Holy Ghost a shadow of rest: the 7th day, 7th year, Millennium reign of Christ. 1 day = a thousand in God’s calendar

Burden is not allowed to be part of the sabbath because our soul finds no rest in sinful behaviors or lifestyle. Selfish desires are not part of rest. Rests are by grace through faith. It is the Holy Ghost that leads us to rest.

Neh 13:1

19 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

Ps 38:3

3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

Matt 11:28-29

28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Rom 8:2

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Temple – The Body as a habitation of God’s Spirit

God wants to live in you as His temple and habitation of His spirit.

Isa 66:1

66 Thus saith the Lord, the heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

Isa 11:2

2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord.

Matt 3:17 - And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1 Cor 6:19

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Circumcision: Abraham covenant

Jer 31:31-35

31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith the Lord:

33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

35 Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name:

Rom 2:29

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Seal of Ownership

The seal of the king has his name, his title, his territory, or his domain of power.

Ex 20:11

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

Name: - Lord Jehovah

Title: The Maker or Creator

Territory: Heavens, earth, and sea

Seal: Set it aside with His seal as a Holy day and Sabbath

Eph 4:30

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Rom 8:9

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Linking the 4th commandment to keep the sabbath day as a type of the Holy Ghost and seal of God’s redemption.

Application:

It is God who leads us to rest through His works of grace. Salvation did not come by works rather by faith in God’s word. Through the workings of the Holy Ghost

Isa 63:14

14 As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

Eph 2:8

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Matt 3:11

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

John 16:13

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

Isa 28:11-12

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12 To whom he said, this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
