Sunday Sermon: Jesus: The Rod of God, May 30th, 2021

Sunday Sermon at The Grateful Church (UPCI) in Phoenix

Jesus: The Rod of God

The rod is a symbol of spiritual authority from God to work miracles. Jesus is the rod of God, whose fulness we have received grace for grace Jn 1:16; Eph 1:23 & Eph 3:19 to carry out His will. Peter said such as I have, give I thee, in the name of Jesus rise and walk. Immediately the man stood up and walked. The rod is empowered just like the name of Jesus is exalted and given power over all things in heaven, earth, and under the earth:

  1. To work miracles, wonders, and convincing signs as external proof of divine mission to the people.

  2. As a commission to exercise spiritual authority and power in the supernatural realms. We know that God is a Spirit, and we can only work with Him in the spiritual realm.

  3. To be a god to the heathen, still, the avenger, bind their nobles with fitter of iron and execute judgment on their kings.

Ex 4:20-21

20 And Moses took his wife and his sons and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

21 And the Lord said unto Moses when thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

Ex 7:1

7 And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

The Rod as a symbol of Authority and Power in the supernatural realm

  1. Jeremiah was given the rod of the almond tree to exercise authority over spiritual wickedness and activities in his time.

Jer 1:10-11

10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

11 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said I see a rod of an almond tree.

  1. David rod of Ps 23:4 became the scepter of his kingship passed on to Jesus who seats on the throne of David his father. The rod is now bestowed on believers seating in the heavenlies with Jesus Christ to carry out judgment on the work of darkness and death.

Eph 2:5-6

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

  1. Moses held up the rod of God against, evil, sin, sickness, and diseases until Amalekites are defeated, which God vowed to wipe out Amalek from the face of the earth. Jesus was lifted at the cross as the rod of God to finally destroy evil, sin, sickness, disease, hell, death, and made them our footstool.

Eph 1:20-23

20 Which he wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

The Rod as a symbol of comfort and strength

The rod is an extended arm of God to give strength, support, and guidance to a place of peace. It reflects the concerns and compassion of God, the Shepherd of our souls to control the threat of darkness and death of life experiences.

  1. It splits the read seas so the people can be baptized. Ex 14:16 & Ex 17:5-6

1 Cor 10:1-4

1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Our Rod today is the Name of Jesus:

We are to use the name of Jesus, the rod of God in all things, as staff to lean on for comfort and as a rod to guide and defend against all enemies.

Col 3:17

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

We are to ask in name of Jesus, baptize in the name of Jesus, preach repentance and remission of sins, cast out demons, heal the sick, receive the Holy Spirit, and speak with new tongues all in the name of Jesus. Use the name of Jesus. He is the rod of God to walk out our salvation. Our calling to is to live in the supernatural realms.
